I’m missing the chance to go on a holiday as we are housebound due to the Covid 19 epidemic. Being home for such a long spell is now losing its charm. Looking back, I realise I was spoilt with my ability to travel often in the previous years. Nostalgia has made me sit and review the multitude of photographs taken during my travels and re-visit the places through the lens of my camera.

Let me take you on a river cruise around Manhattan, NYC. My daughter suggested we take the evening cruise and the experience was fantastic. The time we took this cruise, the late summer weather was just right, the evening heat made bearable by the cool wind off the water. We experienced the wonder of the skylines of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Hoboken through dusk, sunset and dark night all in the matter of 1 ½ hours.

We took a 7pm Harbour Lights Cruise with the Circle Line Cruise Company  from 83 North River Piers, W 42nd St, New York. We had booked the tickets online and had been advised to reach 45 minutes ahead of departure as the seating was on a first come first seated basis. The lines were long but once boarding started, we got on the boat pretty quickly.

The ride starts down the Hudson river towards lower Manhattan. Its best to find a seat in the centre or towards the end of the boat to a side so as to be able to take good photographs. The sun was setting behind Hoboken, so we saw a glorious sunset right at the start and the reflection of the sunset on the mirrored glass building facades of buildings in Brooklyn. The light kept changing with the backdrop and the skyline behind us. The chance to be able to see the Statue of Liberty and the whole length of Manhattan lit up in a panoramic photograph is just out of the world.

Enjoy the skylines of Hoboken, Manhattan and Brooklyn through the photographs below. Each photograph is labeled with the name of the building, bridge or area.
